The 9th annual Night Flight returns on Saturday, July 22nd. This twilight race is run by more than 450 participants dressed up, and adorned with glow sticks each year. The 4.5-mile East Asheville course takes runners through the Asheville Golf Course, the Beverly Hills neighborhood, and the WNC Nature Center before finishing back at Highland Brewing Company. The post-race party with DJ Mitch Fortune and awards ceremony will be in Highland’s Meadow.
Glory Hound Events produces the event. Greg Duff, Founder/President of Glory Hound Events and East Asheville resident said, “Night Flight is special for many reasons: It is the only race in the area dedicated to raising money for greenways; it is run in the evening; and the neighborhoods of Beverly Hills and Gashes Creek enthusiastically support the event. Runners will see neighbors in chairs in their driveways cheering for them, chalk messages on the street, encouraging signs, and sprinklers to cool them off. It very much reminds me of small-town parades where everyone comes out to watch.”
Highland has raised over $50,000 towards the development of greenways in Asheville and Buncombe County since the first Night Flight race in 2014. As with previous years,100% of race proceeds go to the development of greenways in Asheville and Buncombe County through Connect Buncombe. Connect Buncombe’s mission is to encourage and support the implementation of the Greenways and Trails Master Plan and the construction of greenways throughout Buncombe County. Connect Buncombe volunteers will act as race marshals and aid station attendants along the race course.
